It’s just a week to go till this year’s popular Restaurant Week in which you’ll be able to dine in some of Newcastle’s finest restaurants for fixed price menus of either £10 or £15 a head.
Last January, over 25,000 people took advantage of Restaurant Week offers, which equates to over £350,000 worth of business for participating restaurants. January is always the leanest time for restaurants (and for wallets), so this event has become an essential part of the culinary year. The scheme is based on a concept developed in New York City and has been running in Newcastle since 2011. This year over 80 Newcastle restaurants will be taking part.
Terry Laybourne, chef and restaurateur of 21 Hospitality Group, said: "NE1 Restaurant Week has become a keenly anticipated calendar fixture among foodies and general diners; it's a great opportunity to go out and try several restaurants they might not visit otherwise for a fraction of the normal cost and at a quiet time of the year. I'm delighted the New York concept I enjoyed all those years ago has become such a big hit across the city. It's great to see those passionate about food and hospitality working together to promote Restaurant Week."
This is a unique Newcastle institution. Please do support it by going to the Restaurant Week site and downloading vouchers for restaurants of your choice.
Watch the Foodie News section of this site for more details and information, and I’ll be publishing the full list of deals shortly, with special mention of participating restaurants with Secret Diner recommendations - which include Terry Laybourne's Cafe 21 and Caffe Vivo, of course.
